Just got news today that I've been offered an Arabic teaching assistant job at our local university from September... I'm still very excited and nervous - will probably be so for a long time. It's the first non-translation, non-freelance job I've had in eight years, but I'm really looking forward to it.
I never imagined I'd be so excited about leaving my self-employed status/ translator existence behind, so I'm still not quite sure if I'm being foolish, if I'm just liking the idea that I'll finally be able to tell people that I have a "real" career, not cooking with my right hand and translating with my left?

Anyway, just wanted to share this with you guys, my old and dear virtual colleagues. I'm not saying good-bye or anything, I don't think there's ever a good reason for leaving this very dear community, so expect me to hang around here for a while longer!

A change is always very interesting.

I love giving away that I am a translator - a mysterious profession!

Cheers.

Good luck, Nesrin Jul 28, 2008

But don't make us miss you for too long. Even if you may not want to see anything translation-related for a while (which will be only a while, I promise), we would want to see your postings here in the Off-Topic forum. (Aah! And we have a Teaching Languages forum, too)

Wishing you all the best!

Özden

Congratulations!! Jul 29, 2008

I suppose this means saying goodbye to working in your jammies for a while...
(Mind you, continuing to do so could contribute to increased student attendance if you did )
Best of luck, let us know how you get on!
