... anyone coming runner-up to a Uruguayan will instantly be accused of throwing the final just so that the world can listen to a proper national hymn

At the other end of the scale - and even below God Save the Queen - is surely South Africa's. How in all conscience can anyone listen to that song being played by a brass band? To my ears it's choral or nothing.

Well, I like God Save the Queen much more than the Italian national anthem I didn't know the Uruguayan anthem but I've just heard it and it sounds great!
