Thanks to all for your patience as here at the Bogar household we have been fighting an insidious illness that is knocking us down one at a time like dominoes...:-(

However, on a very positive note, I can finally announce the winners of our little impromptu contest.

All submissions were excellent, o'course; what else could we expect from a group of linguists

And now, the envelopes please:

First prize, hands down, no surprise, is Aurora Humaran's
If crime does not pay
and translation does not pay,
are we criminals?

Second place is Enrique Cavalitto's
Defaulters beware
of the blue-boarded circle
in Dante's inferno!
or is it
“I love you” she wrote
I answered back “te amo”...
and got the four points!
- Both poems received the same number of votes.
They may be mysterious indeed to proz outsiders, but they really hit the mark for us, no?

The third place haiku reveals a yearning for peace:
Erika Pal's
mend the broken wings
of all language of the world
translate the word: peace

And just because it was cute and personal, and I was feeling very low at the time when she wrote it and it made me smile, I give a special mention to Rita Heller's
beautiful babies
and health come first, proz can wait
no need to worry

Kudoz to all in our global community.
Now I challenge one of you to put on another contest to sharpen our brains (and give us a break from owner's manuals and other unpoetic linguistic gymnastics)

Nancy Lynn Bogar

With all my strong affection to ProZ this haiku seemed very beautiful and womanly one to me too.

thanks for you support!

Giuli, you got me right and enriched my thoughts. Mind my appointing you my favorite exegist?

Thanks to Nancy for the organization, thanks for "creating an excuse" to fly.

great! Sep 24, 2003

I almost did not read it: off topic, title not very clear, only 3 answers - how much would I have missed! Thank you all!

Was great fun! Sep 24, 2003

Thanks a lot Nancy,

Congratulations to my dear friend Aurora, and to all the talented friends who played along.

It was great fun!

Now we should have a classsical sonnets contest, with a bit more time and some more advertisement.

And I want Jack Doughty in it!

No way to have my favorite ProZ poet self-excluded!

I love this site!
Enrique

Me too, Enrique, I love this site. A day without Proz is like a day without sunshine, as I recently found out.

Hm... Sonnets? Maybe I can participate in this one! Is it on? Is there a theme?

Thanks again to all for your interest and participation.

Nancy

kudos to Nancy! Sep 25, 2003

Thanks, Nancy for organizing the English version of the French Haiku contest (we must not forget to give credit to Alain!)

And there would have been no contest without participants, including the original proznik Henry

It is always fun to make the brain think just a little harder, n'est-ce pas?

Bravo!

I suggest we continue posting haikus - whenever we get the urge.

Rita
