I'll join you in wishing this Nov 25, 2003

I'm missing happier days in a non-sectarian state U, when we celebrated Eid with our Muslim classmates and they in turn joined us for Christmas events... more gifts and goodwill went round than in a monoculture!

More about Eid Nov 26, 2003

Happy Eid to all of you, although I have no idea what it means.

Can anyone briefly explain what is it we're celebrating. I'd appreciate it very much.

Thank you,

Cali

Muslims fast in the month of Ramadan, and Eid is a Gift of God to them for their patience and hardships of the month. It is celebrated for 3 days.

What do the words mean? Dec 10, 2003

I find "Mubarak" also in New Year's greetings, so I guess it means "happy", "lucky" or something like that.
In Dutch the feast is also called "suikerfeest", meaning "sugar feast", but I don't think Eid Mubarak means Happy sugar feast.
Could you tell me what the words mean?

Eid Mubarak = Blessed Feast Dec 10, 2003

Hello All, very nice gesture indeed,

Henk,
Eid means Feast, a religious feast like religious holidays;
Mubarak means blessed.

Good to know that Dec 10, 2003

I already susppected that it shouldn't mean happy sugar feast.
Blessed has more meaning.
Thanks for the explanation
