Dear ProZies,

This page is being opened up to keep you informed about Bam earthquake relief drives around the world.

It has not been easy to find a single coordinating body for all the help that can - and needs - to be sent to Bam, and we all know it is urgent. At the same time, a close watch on events would indicate that supranational logistics are taking some time to organize, whilst initiatives on the national scale are meeting with the same problems regarding what needs, what kind of help to give, who provides the water purifying equipment, who provides the heavy machinery, the medics, the medicines, the dogs...

Neither is this meant to pre-empt a more stable ProZ.com effort to provide helpful links on the topic for the long term (I shall reserve that announcement for Henry).

This is simply meant to inform you how you can help from your own neighbourhood, taking a walk around the block, popping into a bank, perhaps dropping off a few tins or old blankets at the local fire department – (don't laugh, if you live in Pakistan, all those tonnes of material don't have far to go).

Let me start with Spain (I'll update this as the news breaks). UNICEF has announced that it has opened accounts at several major banks to receive private donations for Bam. The story is below:

http://www.notimex.com.mx/w/a_principal/diciembre/271203/Y009271203.php

The UNICEF accounts for this purpose are:
BBVA: 0182-5906-81-0010033337
BSCH: 0049-0001-59-2810100005
BANESTO: 0030-0550-33-0000281271
CajaMadrid: 2038-0098-06-6000777776
La Caixa: 2110-5731-70-0200005001

You are all invited to post your links and information for any part of the world.

Estimados ProZianos,

http://www.notimex.com.mx/w/a_principal/diciembre/271203/Y009271203.php

Cecilia

Here is a bit more I found:

Canadians wishing to make a financial donation may call

1 (800) 418-1111 or contact their local Canadian Red Cross office. The 24-hour toll-free line accepts Visa and MasterCard. Cheques should be made payable to the Canadian Red Cross, earmarked "Iran Earthquake Relief" and mailed to: Canadian Red Cross National Office, 170 Metcalfe St., Suite 300, Ottawa, ON K2P 2P2.

On-line donations are accepted at www.redcross.ca.

Canadians worried about family in Iran can call the Department of Foreign Affairs emergency line: 1 (613)-943-1055 or 1 (800) 387-3124.

It is wonderful to see so much help already

Take care,
Karin
