It was planned by architects: no public lighting on the streets, no overhead cables, planned commercial areas (all the rest is residential), golf course, conservation of the forest, every detail was taken care of.

Some years ago identification was required to enter into the village, as if it were a country club (and it seems like one).

Nature is practically untouched: a large forest with beautiful houses in it, no coastal avenue, no paved streets...no even public lighting in the streets It is the ideal place for resting.

Just have a look at the photos. I am sure you will enjoy them. Sorry, most of the links are in Spanish, but photography is a universal language...

Don't look for economy hotels in Caril? It is the most expensive seaside resort in Argentina. There are only four and five star hotels with SPA, sauna, swimming pool and whatever you would expect. Here are two of the apart hotels of the area:

http://www.carilosoleil.com.ar/galeria.php

http://www.torrecillascarilo.com.ar/Serv_360.html

If you want a quiet time at the seaside, you have found the right spot. And even though the prices are high, with the present exchange rate to the Dollar it is still affordable for your pocket...

But remember: winter is very cold here, and the best season for visiting the area is November to March, especially January and February. You can check the weather forecast at www.weather.com or www.accuweather.com. Since Caril?is a small village, look for the forecast of Villa Gesell or Pinamar. Both towns are less than ten miles away from this beautiful spot.

Enjoy it.

I have been on the Amazon at three different cities: Iquitos (Perú), and Manaus and Belem in Brazil. Probably I did not pay too much attention to the Amazon scenery because I have been in similar landscapes on the Paraná river in Argentina fishing for dorados. In any case, it is very interesting.

Just have a look at these photos and decide for yourself. In the first photo you will se the luxury of the Manaus Opera, then you will read a description of the area, and after this the photos will continue.

Traffic is VERY slow, one we took one hour to cover a distance of less than two miles, but that of course depends on the time of the day and where you are going.

The city is surrounded by mountains, and of course that means occasionally some smog, but not as much as you would find in Mexico City or in Santiago (Chile). The city of Bogota has probably some 6 million inhabitants, or more. (I have just read it has 6,700,000).

If you decide to stay in this city, the North area is safer than the South, and I found a good and nice 4-star hotel called Cosmos in Bogot?North. I also stayed at the Tequendama, but that area is not completely safe.

I am writing this article in answer to a request for information on Bogota, so I am going to search for some history and some photos now.

This site has a very nice selection of photos of Bogotá Click on each photo to enter into a new section with more photos.

And here is a small but very nice photo selection of Argentina:

Just to give you an idea where you can go in Argentina, I am posting this page, but I believe you will find better rates if you buy the tours in Buenos Aires:
http://www.azeta.com.ar/ipatagonia.html

A word of caution: it you don´t want to pay international rates at the hotels (and this advice is also valid for El Calafate) go to economy hotels, or check the rates by internet before travelling. At Ushuaia and El Calafate most hotels are charging higher rates to foreigners. These are the only areas in Argentina where this is happening, except for five-star hotels, that apply this policy in the whole country.
