Staying Healthy in a Computer-based Workforce by Randall Helm, P.T.

one humorous example:

Smile breaks
A final way to decrease stress and improve muscle relaxation is to simply take a smile break. It sounds simple and a bit goofy, but it works. If you are feeling glum, miserable, depressed, tired, angry, or just frazzled, try this simple exercise. Stand up, relax your shoulders, take a couple of deep breaths and then smile. Not just any smile, but one that goes from ear to ear, makes your eyebrows rise and your ears hurt. Now hold this for at least 30 seconds. If someone sees you doing this then it will serve a double purpose because they will probably smile as well.

get addicted to coffee Mar 9, 2004

another "great" one.
Get (or stay) addicted to coffee and plague yourself by using the smallest coffee bowl you can find. Now your mind drives you automatically twice per hour towards your coffee-maker!

So, RSI-problem solved!!

.... or exchanged for another one, perhaps??

Are you sure we should call this a 'smile break'? The person who saw me doing this didn't simply smile, she bursted out in laughter

Put the coffee=maker on another floor, at the opposite end of the house - who needs the gym?

Thanks, Rita, very timely Mar 9, 2004

Thanks, Rita, I imagine all forum-readers will be taking a gander at this article.
I've been seeing the chiro thrice weekly since my return from Europe. My shoulders, lower back and sciatica gave grave concern whilst merely walking about Barcelona (not exactly hiking the Laurentians, mind you), and I'm only 37. The chiro has noted a dramatic increase in computer-related repetitive injury.
Fortunately, working at home, we can take vaccuum-and-mop breaks...
