That is very kind of you, but the site in question is about the latest slang which I would probably need to hang around on the right street corners to get. I know I said refreshing, instead of refreshment, but that was a typo, mea culpa

Fun test! Hmm methinks it's promotion time - got 9/10, it was the boss slang that got me!

I got 7/10. That's scary! Or maybe it just comes from being American. Some of this stuff (ducks in a row) has been part of American lingo for a while. Reminds me of what we used to say to each other in college at about lunchtime. "Djeet yet?" "No, djoo?" "No, so let's gweet!" Translation: "Did you eat yet?" "No, did you?" "No, so let's go eat".
Ok, I think there are two reasons for my getting a 2/10... | Mar 14, 2004 |
First, I have been living out of the US for about 30 years (I have close encounters with teenagers every single day at home and school but they speak French) and also because I hesitate too long instead of going for my gut feeling on questions. Age might have something to do with it too. You guys all are probably younger than I am!

A note to Gayle : I doubled your score, and I think it's because 1) I'm young, 37 2) I haven't left N America in 14 years (except for 6 days last month to Spain) But I failed the test anyway, because 1) I'm old, 37 2) I live in Canada and speak Canadian Good exercise. At Christmas a Canadian discount department store advertising video games, etc played up the generation gap - the mother brings in her teen son, and the electronics salesman, twentysomething, is able to interpret the child's lingo to the 40something mom. I couldn't follow what the teen said either.;-) Nancy ▲ Collapse

I got 6/10, YAY!! I am happy because: - I have NEVER been in USA - I have NEVER watched American sitcom for more than one year - I DIDN't grow up in an English speaking country - I only guessed one question right. I answered the rest by looking at the context. - Maybe thats because I am still 24 years old, still young...:)

It was pure luck. I hope I get that lucky in June, when I take my CPE.

After translating during 45 years, I have learnt to guess pretty well when I cannot find the answer... And I am no teenager, I am nearly 64 years old... RobertIngledew
