There is a new song out, "Ai se eu te pego", by Brazilian singer Michel Teló, which has had 94 million YouTube hits so far. This promises to be the biggest hit by a Brazilian singer on a world scale since Carmen Miranda back in the 1940s.

De gustibus non est disputandum Jan 7

I wasn't a great fan of Carmen Miranda, but at least the tunes of her songs (such as "I-I-I-I-I-I like you very much!") were memorable but I don't think this one is, so I-I-I-I-I-I don't like this song very much.

Kids love it Jan 7

Hi,

This song is a big hit with young people in my country too.

I don't know if the singer can be compared with Carmen Miranda, maybe it's simply that due to Youtube, FB and similar sites, a catchy tune is all over the globe in a very short time.

A few years ago, it was this:

(Ivete Sangalo: Poeira)

What I like about this kind of music is that it makes you feel Brazil's wonderful hot weather!

I admit that these aren't the Brazilian "classics" (that's another topic you could start, Paul!) but they're great for fun and dancing.

Is it my imagination Jan 8

Or is the YouTube footage of Obama actually a few snippets repeated over and over again?

On another note, can you imagine the leader of your own country dancing along? (In Obama's case, I presume his advisors had decided in advance that his being seen dancing would be good for his image...).

For Spain I'm afraid I balk at the mere idea of the new president doing this, but I am sure that El Intermedio would find a way of doing a montage of it if they put their minds to it (inside reference to a Spanish TV show there).

Edited for typos.
