This isn't Oprah's site... | May 5, 2006 |
Er...it's a site by one of her "clubs de ventilateurs". They provide a link to the free machine translation site on the English (home) page. (And I agree with Matteo who was posting at the same time as me that this is really bad for ALS and may be a good plug for human translators). I am sure that Oprah herself would never engage in anything so low-budget! The "fan" club is good for a laugh, though! Sara

Had a good laugh... | May 5, 2006 |
... reading the Portuguese and the French translations. We can always contact them at "contact us" and suggest they change the translations because they are really bad. Or suggesting our names to do so...
Spanish version is hilarious... | May 5, 2006 |
specially for the "club de ventilador premiado" I wasn't aware that a "ventilador" could be nominated to (and awarded!!) the Nobel Prize. : )

"Nous serions honorés si vous acceptiez de servir d'une des Co-chaises..." I love that part! I don't think I would be ready to support that "ange humain de la lumiere"... That woman really gets on my nerves.

and also the Spanish one. I am still LOL. This is great. It is good to know that our job is secure - at least for now. Lucinda

I can't believe people still use those automatic translation programs. The worst of all is that I have even seen correspondence, manuals and other texts translated that way!

Recently I was told I should forget my plan to become a translator because programmes are so good these days that humans are no longer necessary. It better not be true. What I would like to know is how are these programmes used and how useful are they really? Anybody know?
