Sorry to hear a story like this. I'm sure a lot of us can give a similar story and can relate to it.

In order to take positive steps, instead of just crying about it, I would recommend supporting any neighborhood anti-crime group. Also, you might also support your local candidate who will be doing something that prevents this awful feeling you are having right now.
