The visual LED's will begin to intermittently illuminate!

The writer must be a really illuminate person!

Cheers

Dear Heinrich,

The visual LED's will start to blink. OR
The visual LED's will start to blink intermittently.

I hope this will help you.

Venícius Sabóia.

The LED will blink Apr 18, 2007

Or "The LED blinks"

I think that "visual" is redundant

My suggestion Apr 18, 2007

When the LEDs light up, their visual aura embraces the reader/user/spirit with a heavenly light.

Good night!

That's much better already. Thank you Viktoria.

Perhaps we could still mention the acoustic LEDs and the visual beepers?

Hi,

Did it work? I think using the verb "to blink" is a good choice.

I just wanted to show what kind of language you can encounter in English technical documents which are probably not written by very illuminate people.

Where's the problem? Apr 20, 2007

Heinrich Pesch wrote querying the elegance of:

The visual LED's will begin to intermittently illuminate!

Assuming this is a piece of off-the-cuff writing by a bored CAT tool trying its hand as a free-form essayist, my only quarrels are with the split infinitive and the unwarranted apostrophe. I've certainly seen far worse writings - including a lot of stuff from human writers with PhDs!

visual might not be superfluous, as Lia suggests, if the system also has infra-red LEDs (like those in a TV remote control).

And maybe the LEDs are actually being used to illuminate something, not just to look pretty. I am the (not very) proud owner of a flashlamp that has 15 white LEDs instead of a good old-fashioned torch bulb - it's flippin' brilliant! *.

As usual, it all depends on CONTEXT...

So, asusming the facts are correct, it might perhaps read thus:

The visual LEDs (but not the IR LEDs) will begin to illuminate the (whatever is benefitting from the flickering light) intermittently.

MediaMatrix

* brilliant as in 'ingenious', not as in 'delivering high luminosity'
