My all-time favourite actor is : Vincent Price, a gentleman and an American 'Shakespearian' actor. My favourite actress is Natalie Wood. I loved her in Rebel without a Cause alongside James Dean...her death was so tragic
And yours?

Robert

Tom Hanks May 23, 2007

"Who else"?

That's the first one who comes up to my mind when this question is brought up. He's so versatile... "Big" is one of my favourites. I can't help watch it on the TV even if it is for the 100th time.

my faves May 23, 2007

Sir Anthony Hopkins (he could read the yellow pages and I would still give him an Oscar award!)

Al Pacino (I loved him in Scent of a Woman and as Shylock in the Merchant of venice)

Dustin Hoffman (from Mrs Robinson to Meet the Fokers through Midnight Cowboy and Tootsie, he's absolutely fantastic)

Tom Hanks (LOVE him in Forrest Gump)

Robin Williams (as a comedian he cracks me up, but he can be extremely dramatic as in Good Will Hunting or The Fisher King).

Meryl Streep (amazing woman and actress, I adored her in The Devil Wears Prada, I hated her in her role in Kramer vs. Kramer, she's amazing in Angels in America and in the Hours)

George Clooney (he could be a plumber for what I care, I don't particularly like him as an actor but, boy he's gorgeous! He too, could read the yellow pages in front of the screen and I would still watch him...sigh....).

From the "old generation" of actors, I find Paul Newman simply irresistible. Still now that he's old and wrinkled, his smile and blue eyes can still make my heart flutter!

Who??

Well, you know, not all great actors live in Hollywood and get recognised by the Academy Awards.

Ask almost anyone in the Arab world, and they will tell you that this fantastic Egyptian actor is up there with the all-time best actors worldwide. Sadly, he died of cancer 2 years ago. His sincerity and range of roles were simply beyond compare.

Since we're a unique international community here on Proz, this may be a good opportunity to provide a glimpse on some of the less internationally known thespians out there.

Other more recognisable favourites of mine: Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett, Audrey Hepburn, and of course many more... Also like all your favourites, Liliana.

Toto' May 23, 2007

I have a long list of favourites, but Toto’ certainly tops them all!

Maybe his name is not too familiar to non-Italians, but he’s my absolute number one!

Anyway, here’s a “short” list of names:

Sean Connery (still handsome, still charming, still everything..)
Denzel Washington (just one word: Denzel!)
Sidney Poitier
Marcello Mastroianni
Alberto Sordi
Anthony Hopkins
Morgan Freeman
Samuel L. Jackson
Enrico Lo Verso (loved him in Farinelli)
Yul Brinner
Laurence Fishburne
Brad Pitt (I enjoyed every minute of Meet Joe Black, with him and A. Hopkins)
George Clooney (hmmm hmmm Good!..and much better than a Campbell soup)

Audrey Hepburn (so classy..and soo thin!)
Claudia Cardinale (for me she is the epitome of Italian beauty)
Sophia Loren
Halle Berry
…etc etc…

Jevgeni Mironov May 24, 2007

Unforgettable in the serial "The Idiot" after Dostoyevsky, Russia 2004 (?).
Bruno Ganz is always fantastic too.
Ingrid Bergman and Grace Kelley are my favourites too, but Greta Garbo was a disappointment, when I viewed her movies on tv.
Cheers

Clint Eastwood and ... May 24, 2007

My old-all-time favourite is Clint Eastwood, he's pretty amazing even now at 70-plus. He's way up there with Russell Crowe for me. I also like Jim Carrey for his manic energy and huge talent. When I was a child I absolutely adored Gary Cooper ... remember him?

How wonderful to see the dance scene from "Scent of a Woman" again, Au. One of my favourite film scenes, along with the ending of "Cinema Paradiso" and the 'rainy' scene from "Pride and Prejudice".

I like Jim Carrey too, despite his silly roles. I find him particularly good in dramatic roles (sadly not many) like "Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind".

So true, Vittorina, the dance scene in that movie is so intense. I wish I could be dancing with him in that scene! I also love Pacino's long defense monologue almost at the end of the same movie.

There is another wonderful monologue in "Angels in America": Al Pacino is in a hopsital room with Meryl Streep, and believe me, that scene alone is worth the patience of going through the almost 6 hours movie!
