\"THE POWER OF WORDS... A Froggy Story\"

-- Author Unkown

A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit. All the other frogs gathered around the pit. When they saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead.

\"THE POWER OF WORDS... A Froggy Story\"

A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit. All the other frogs gathered around the pit. When they saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead.

The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit with all of their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down and died.

The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and just die. He jumped even harder and finally made it out.

When he got out, the other frogs said, \"Did you not hear us?\" The frog explained to them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the entire time.

The moral of this story: Be careful of what you say.

Encouraging words to people who are down can encourage them to achieve their goals. Destructive words to people who are down can have a negative effect.

Phrase your words so they inspire and encourage others.

\"Words: The Snow may look smooth and soft,

but the rocks underneath are sharp!\" -- Mark Russell

More powerful words...

Correction does much, but encouragement does more. Encouragement after censure is as the sun after a shower.

Flatter me, and I may not believe you. Criticize me, and I may not like you. Ignore me, and I may not forgive you. Encourage me, and I may not forget you.

Often we can help each other most by leaving each other alone; at other times we need the hand-grasp and the word of cheer.

The best exercise for strengthening the heart is reaching down and lifting people up.

Words of comfort, skillfully administered, are the oldest therapy known to man.

The idea that the members of a society that evolved apparently little over hundreds of thousands of years would have had \"nothing to talk about\" is true only if we think of language as primarily a means of conveying information about the world. But if we understand it as first and foremost a means of deferring violence through the designation of a sacred mediator, then it becomes perfectly plausible that it could evolve very slowly without lacking in functionality at any stage.

The Apple in Her Eye Feb 12, 2003

I like to imagine that the word \"yes\" was the first ever invented, and that it was born in a woman\'s eye. The next day she invented \"no\" and got bopped on the head. This triggered concepts such as \"maybe\", \"truce\" or just \"I give up\" and either they adjusted or she walked off with a perhaps less-evolved, but at least more manageable primate. The \"tool-making animal\" then invented some sort of bludgeon to get even and we\'re still experiencing variants of the same rut.

I would rewrite this in Latin, but I never studied it and, anyhow, experience no heavenly mandate to push this any further
