1. How many times do you go to the restroom before and after checking your email?
2. When your left buttock is itching, do you scratch it with your left hand, right hand, or do you have a special tool integrated in your office chair?
3. When you translate into a language unknown to you, do you charge more, give discounts or volunteer?
4. If you set your laptop to work on your terrace and the bird drops it on it and causes a short, would you shoot the bird, shoot yourself or call it a day and go for a morning beer?
5. Normally death comes in a black cape and with a scythe. To a fly it comes in boxers and with a newspaper. Which way would you prefer?

We are open for more suggestions:-D

How about... Nov 5, 2007

How many times have you felt like shooting your computer?

I'm afraid the parade is endless. I'd sure like to see some more substantial topics for polls.

Didn't we already have a lengthy discussion of that one a few months ago? I'd hate to see us repeat.

If you do translation work for an agency which requires full teamwork with the editor, however, the final version after edits will be delivered by yours truly:

Do you consider the time assigned for editing until final delivery a perfectly fine grace period for your delayed delivery?

a.) Of course. May this poor little sucker read a little bit faster or burn midnight oil. Who are editors anyway? Aren't they supposed to be the end of the food chain?

b.) Nah, wouldn't do that. That's unethical and I respect my colleagues.

c.) I know that the editor is an experienced and expensive translator, but what the heck, I will come up with a good excuse and I know that this top-notch professional will rather bend backwards than messing up a deadline, which means that I can go to bed now and finish tomorrow.

a.s.o.

Thanks Irene for a greatly-needed morning belly laugh! I can't help feeling that certain polls are suggested out of a desperate desire for a Warholesque kind of 15 minutes of web exposure...

More suggestions please!!!

Some more Nov 9, 2007

When you work for a non-paying, non-responding and ultimately non-existing agency for 5 years in a row, you:

1. Turn down everybody else because you are too busy
2. Never lose hope to locate their PM or at least webpage and/or phone first thing tomorrow morning
3. Outsource the overflow and pay out of your own pocket
4. Get a third mortgage on your garage because the subject is too interesting
5. On Christmas eves, impress your heirs with the annual growth of the amount owed to you and awaiting for them according to your will.
6. Chase away occasional obscure thoughts like maybe, just maybe they are crooks and you are a dumba*, but your firm belief in human greatness always takes over and it makes you feel so good!
7. Other (please, please explain!)
