Lost Hyperlinks in Word

I use Windows XP and Office 2000.
Something strange has happened to the treatment of hyperlinks.
If I type in e.g. www.proz.com it used to turn blue, underlined and act as a hyperlink.
Now, however, I get this: { HYPERLINK "www.proz.com" } in black.
Similarly, if I copy an image into Word, it disappears and is replaced with: { EMBED PBrush }.
I should be grateful for any expert advice.
Thanks.

In Wordfast, Trados or SDLX you may find another cause:
If you lose tags during translation processes, your hyperlink can be gone foreever.
I was lazy to adjust Format Paint in SDLX and met with many of such mistakes.
