Excel does not show sheets

A few days ago I noticed that when I double click on a xls-document in Windows Vista, the application shows no content. Only when I select print preview do I see the cells and the content. Even when loading other documents nothing is to be seen.
But when I start MS Excel from the program menu and open the same file, everything is ok.
What can be the matter?
