Where are Word's automatic spelling corrections held?

Like a lot of translators I specialise in unwitting anagrams, one of my most common being "transaltion"...
Having worked for years in Word 97 I have just upgraded to Word 2k, but can't find where the automatic corrections are kept - I thought they were in normal.dot

Has anyone resolved this issue ?

Thanks Rita for helping out.
What I'm looking for though is the physical file on the hard disk which contains (contained?) all of that information lovingly built up over the years and which now doesn't get Word to automatically convert all my anagrams into sensibel wrods.

By the way, if you use AutoCorrect a lot, you could try IntelliComplete:

I think it's much better than AutoCorrect/AutoComplete in Word and it works in any application. It costs about $50. It's shareware with 30 days trial period.

I recently reinstalled Windows. I premise I am not a computer freak at all, so I thoroughly prepared this step by reading whatever could be helpful.
I have Word 97, too, and copied, accordingly to the instructions I had found, the file Normal.dot; it's very precious indeed as it contains all your personal Word settings and like you say your automatic corrections, too. So when I reinstalled Word, I didn't have any problems and had all my settings and corrections like I did before.

is this:

go to Insert, then Symbol, then Autocorrect. Fill in the word you always mistype then, in the next window, fill in the correction you require.
You need to use the Plain Text option or it won't work.

At the moment it seems as if Pavel Atando's excellent macros (I recommend anyone to take a look) might do the job
I followed the instructions for exporting the corrections from Word 97 into a doc which went fine, and importing into Word 2000 also seemed to go fine (no error messages) but the corrections haven't been incorporated - I wonder if there is any incompatibility. I'll check it out better tomorrow.

Not for upgrades though! Dec 14, 2003

For some reason, normal.dot won't recover your automatic corrections when you upgrade, but only when you reinstall. Thankfully, though, I did copy it and it works fine for all of my macros, toolbars etc, but not for the automatic correction.

It really makes you wonder what the decision processes at Miscrofot are like (sorry I like that anagram so much I'm going to leave it!) that a pretty computer-literate person like myself has problems such as these...
