I switched to Office 2010 only last week and am still struggling with the new menu structure.
What I would like to do is set Word view so, that the page is displayed at 150 % zoom by default. Now I have the choice to set it to 100 % or 200 % or page width etc. In earlier versions it was easy to select 150 %, but not anymore.
I hardly ever need 100 %, because the text is to small and I get too many typos and wrong cursor positions, especially in Arial font.
But is a default setting of 150 % possible in 2010?

Right-click on bottom line of Word
Nov 18, 2011
Hello Heinrich
I switch to Office 2010 in April after having used Word 2003 for many years and occasionally I am still struggling with it too.
Regarding the zoom factor: right-click on the bottom line of Word to show the "Statusleiste anpassen" menu (probably something like Adapt status bar in English. At the very end (at least in the German version) you will find "Zoom" and "Zoomregler" which I activated. When clicking on the zoom value, e.g. 100% a window opens and there you can enter a value under the option "Percent". Instead of using the window you may also use the bar (Zoomregler) and shift it on the 150% value.
From now on Word should always open with the last zoom factor you set.

PS: maybe I will find out how to enter screenshots in answers in the near futur, then I will add them to my explanations

No default

I tried this in my English version - it is called the "zoom slider". You can also go into "View" and change the zoom % there. But I see no way to set that as the default, the next time I open Word it always goes back to 100%.

Another solution: use an AutoExec macro
Dec 14, 2011
I think Tina's right, and zoom settings are not maintained in between sessions.
What you could do is create a short macro that sets the zoom setting, and set this macro to run automatically every time you open Word.
First, close Word. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates and open the Normal.dot file you find there.
Next, create a macro. You will first need to enable the "Developer" tab, which is hidden by default. That's done via File > Options > Customize Ribbon > select "Developer"
Now click "Record Macro" and name it AutoExec (No need to "assign to icon" or "assign to keyboard"). Any macro named AutoExec will run automatically when Word opens. Click on the zoom percentage and set the zoom to 150%, click ok, and click again on the record macro button, which has now changed its icon and is called "stop recording". Then save the file and close word. It should now set the zoom to 150% automatically every time!
PS: Be careful not to do anything other than setting the zoom during the time that the macro is recording, because everything you do is saved into the macro, even moving your cursor position with the arrow keys. By the way, the specific macro you'll create is:
Sub AutoExec()
ActiveWindow.ActivePane.View.zoom.Percentage = 150
End Sub
Save time by automatically extracting terms. 15% off!
