I got a document for translation with lots of footnotes in it. The footnotes are added by some editor and have no meaning for my translation. When I try to remove one I get the message above.
How to remove footnotes in Word 2010? Or any other office application?
When I save it as plain text the footnotes are gone but the index numbers remain.

Hallo Heinrich
Hast du mal versucht, das Fussnotenzeichen anzuwählen und dann statt löschen ausschneiden zu drücken (Blumenkohl X)? Manchmal funktioniert dieser Trick.

You need to block the footnote number in the text and delete it, The information at the bottom will then disappear as well.

First I thought this does not help, but it works. I would like to remove them all at once. It is too much of work with 50 footnotes.

Make sure you are in the main document (that is make sure you aren't in the footnotes area).
Click Ctrl+H
In "Find what:" type "^f" (no quote marks)
In "Replace with:" don't type anything, leave it blank
Click on "Replace All"
Your done | | | |

After all you are translating the text and footnotes too form a part thereof, according to the creator's opinion. Why then doing a judgmental action?

Normally you are right, but these footnotes may not be translated. They refer to the process of assembling the text and are of no meaning to the future reader.
