Isn't that CTRL + ALT + Space Jeff | | | Jerzy Czopik Germany Local time: 04:31 Member (2003) Polish to German + ... No, it ain´t | Feb 26, 2005 |
Manual line break: CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER In Search&replace put "^l" (without quoting marks), this represents line break. To replace "/" by "/ with line breaks", place "/" in search field, and "/^l" in the replace with field. You can put also an additional space, where you need. This should work. Hi Jerzy, As I'm working in a table, pressing Ctrl+Shift+ENTER inserts a line break between the row my cursor is in and the previous one. Is there another way to do this? Jeff's suggestion doesn't work either I'm afraid. Thanks for trying to help Mandy

Just insert a regular space before the yyyy. If the column is not wide enough, this is where the line would be broken. However, the space will be visible if he column is wide enough. You can put a space on each side of the "/" for symmetry. | | | Jerzy Czopik Germany Local time: 04:31 Member (2003) Polish to German + ... Ehm, what do you exactly want to do? | Feb 26, 2005 |
If you have xxxx/yyyyy in one cell and wish to get xxxx/ yyyy in the same cell, so go and replace "/" by "/^l", then you will get this. You can simply move the cursor back with arrows or mouse or other commands. I must admit I cannot understand your problem. Hello Jerzy, I think Mandy needs the line to break if the column is not wide enough for the whole text, but for the text to stay on the same line otherwise. I am not sure if there is a hidden character that allows for this, so just a regular space is what is needed like any normal paragraph, whether in a table or not. | | | what you need is an optional hyphen | Feb 26, 2005 |
Hi Mandy, To insert an optional hyphen click where you want to insert the optional hyphen and press CTRL+HYPHEN (i.e. Ctrl+ minus sign) This is a hidden character so you won't see it if the phrase is not broken into two lines. Ifyou want to make sure it's there, activate hidden text in Tools-View-Hidden Text (ticked). Cheers, Grace.

Jerzy Czopik Germany Local time: 04:31 Member (2003) Polish to German + ... But then why the heck you dont make your column wide enough? | Feb 26, 2005 |
Even if you afterwards need to get it back to the original width. Just write down, how wide the column now is, then set it as wide as you need, and after you are finished set it back. Or do you need a permanent solution? Then use the solution from Graciela Carlyle. Then replace "/" by "/^-". Protected spaces are Ctrl + Shift + Space (in my Word 2000) I mean make it: xxx / yyyy xxx[protected space]/[simple space]yyyy

You are right, 2 simple spaces will solve the problem. (Only one space would not look nice in one line: xxx/ yyy)

Besides, a text flow like shown below isn't desireable either: xxx / yyy Sorry I can't suggest anything but AFAIK there is no conditional new line in Word. | | | Pages in topic: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Optional line breaks in Word Trados Studio 2022 Freelance | The leading translation software used by over 270,000 translators.
