Error message "Prop Res Dll Not Loaded" in Word - how can I fix this? Thread poster: Aria

I keep getting an error message: "Prop Res Dll Not Loaded" when I open some Word files. A Google Groups search shows only one solution which basically involves uninstalling Office, then deleting some registry entries and then reinstaling it. Before going through this painful operation I wonder if someone can give me some advice. I am running Windows XP. Thanks in advance.

Microsoft knowledge base has no clue about such error message - possibly some abbreviation used or diferent wording? Is this connected with files comming from special customer or with special language settings? Do you use speech recognition in conjunction with Word? Regards Jerzy

No. But now that you ask this it came to my mind that the message began to appear after I downloaded a test for a potential job offered on Proz (http://www.proz.com/job/72730) from a site in Korea. I run Norton AntiVirus before opening it and the .doc was ok. When I opened it I got a error message and Word shut down. I never tried to reopen that document, but since then I get this strange message. >Do you use speech recognition in conjunction with Word? no. So far everything else works fine, but this message is really annoying. Any ideas? Thanks and regards, Maura ▲ Collapse

Possibly the document you downloaded needed a language you don´t have installed and thus caused something happening in the background. As the MS Knowledge Base says nothing about such error message, this seems not be a common issue. Maybe you could try to do a repair installation of your Office. To do so simply insert the CD with Office into your CD-drive and chose "Repair" from the appearing menu. Should the menu not appear, start the "Steup" programm from the CD manually. I hope this helps. Should this not help, make a backup of your Office settings (use the Assistent for saving own settings from Microsoft Office Tools programm group) and reinstall Office - follow the steps above, but first chose "Uninstall" and then reinstall Office. This does not take a lot of time and should work. If this does not help, only a fully removing of Office with all settings and registry entries may help - but this is a task for an experienced computer specialist, as playing with the registry may cause a lot of harm in your system, including a completly damage of Windows. Hope this helps | Mar 11, 2005 |
I had this problem before. It was related to installing and then uninstalling different versions of Office applications. I now have it again after temporarily installing part of Office. I can't remember the solution but I am going to look for it again and will post back if I find it. I recall it involved uninstalling and then deleting some file left behind before reinstalling. Of course you don't want to delete files which are important for your settings.

Problem solved with the help of a friend. That's how: Uninstall the office xp, after that go to Program Files and check if theres a folder named Microsoft Office. If it is still present even though you've completely uninstalled it delete it. Then open the registry editor (start > run and type regedit) go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/microsoft/ and delete the key "office". Same as in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/microsoft/ delete "office". Restart your PC and reinstall ... See more Problem solved with the help of a friend. Found same solution | Mar 11, 2005 |
I just Googled and found the same solution I had found previously, which is in fact yours. A word to anyone else with the problem: in my case I had installed Excel 97 over Word 2002 which is part of Works Suite. After uninstalling Excel 97 I found an Office 97 folder, which I deleted. I didn't touch anything marked simply Office. The problem appears to be resolved.

I just wanted to say thank you so much for posting about the printer software. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office to no effect. If anything, I started getting that dumb error even more! After reading your fix, I figured it was easier than the earlier suggestions and ran with it. I actually haven't re-installed my printer yet. All I know is that when I did what I normally do that triggers that error (every single time), it didn't come up! HURRAY!!! So, thank you for posting ... goto c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\Lexmark_x1100_seriesf27b and copy lxbkprpr.dll to c:\windows\system32 if you don't have c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\Lexmark_x1100_seriesf27b then just search for the dll. This will resolve the issue. Don't buy lexmark printers cos lexmark don't know what day it is.
Printer Solution worked | May 22, 2006 |
Thanks heaps for the printer solution to the Word 2003 problem. I don't know what caused the "Prop Res DLL not loaded" error to pop up, but the Lexmark file relocation certainly made it go away. So thanks again for the solution. Thanks to "gpartridge" for setting it out so clearly. For the record: 1. Re-installing or updating the driver software didn't work. 2. Relocating the dll file to windows/system32 worked. 3. I own a Lexmark All-in-One X1170.

Copying dll file to System32 worked a treat. Thanks Partridge, you're a genius (and Lexmark are fools!). Cheers Nik

worked for Z35 as well | Feb 20, 2008 |
the name of the file in my case is LXAXPRPR.DLL, the rest is the same. Talked to Lexmark support and they though it was a MS problem.... After I told them about this site, they said they will look at the problem and work a fix to post on their own support pages.

Thanks for this - my Lexmark X6150 now works fine with Office 2007 after moving file LXBFPRPR.DLL Cheers Rog
