I am checking a huuuuge document and just now realised the first two footnotes were missed and the footnote count starts at 1 where it should be 3. Is there anything I can do (quickly, as I have to deliver it very soon) to put it right. SOS.
I use Word 2003.

Ines

PS. Needless to say - I am a complete backet case in anything to do with footnotes so if you have a bright idea how to save my neck pls be patient and explain it as simple as possible, as if you are talking to a suicidal kid.

Insert missing footnotes? Jan 13, 2006

Hi Ines,
Why don't you just insert the two missing footnotes in proper places - the count then will automatically adjust itself.

Or, do you want the footnote numbering to start from no 3? Then, you need to change the first number manually.

Should be very easy... Jan 13, 2006

..if the footnotes are only missing in your text. If so, then just fill in the missing footnotes where they should be and the counting will continue properly. Footnote number 1 will turn automatically into footnote #3.

To explain how to put a footnote: click behind the word you want to put the footnote. Then go to: Insert (it's at the head of Word doc.)- Reference - Footnote.

Usually I "adore" to explain in a complicated way, but hope I was clear enough. Just ask, if you don't understand something I wrote or if the problem lies somewhere else.

P.S.: I have also Word 2003 and it works.

Wish you luck!

There is a 'Numbering/Start from' when you insert a footnote. Jan 13, 2006

nd you can change it in 'Note properties' for existing ones
