Hi all, I have to change the order of symbols in the translation: (D4 fig.) to (fig. D4).

Figure numbers of course differ and there are thousands of changes to make. Is there some way to make Search-Replace function to do it?

Hi Uldis,

if you only have one (uppercase!) letter and one digit in each name, try this:

Search:
([A-Z][0-9])( )(fig.)

Replace:
3\2\1

For one letter and one or more digits (e.g. D44 fig.):
([A-Z][0-9]@)( )(fig.)

For one or more letters and one or more digits (e.g. ABC33 fig.):
([A-Z]@[0-9]@)( )(fig.)

In every case you need to tick the "With wildcards" box.

Have you actually tried this? There is no "Any digit" option in the "Replace with" field (obviously - you need to specify which digit to replace). You can put "Found text", but this gives the whole string, which would not help much.

Endre's method, on the other hand, should work quite well.

I use OpenOffice but probably something similar should work in Microsoft Word.

If you record a macro something like:

Have the cursor at the beginning of document
Start recording macro
Do ctrl-F and type “ fig.)” in the find box and click find
Hit delete
Close find dialogue
Click back into document
Type “)”
Do ctrl-F and type “(“ in the find box and check backward search and click find
Close find dialogue
... See more

I don't know how to run a macro repeatedly automatically except that it is probably possible to edit the Basic code to do so.
