I've at last got my new laptop (with Vista Ultimate) set up and am trying to keep the system as clean as possible, i.e. no useless programs.

Thus I've not got to decide whether to keep my old and trusted Outlook 2000 or to use Windows Mail as my default email app. As far as I can see, the only thing Outlook has that Windows Mail doesn't is Notes. But then again, Vista's got Notes in its famous Sidebar (which strangely enough doesn't display when you hit the "Show desktop" icon)

Grateful for any comments from colleagues who've gone Vista before me.

It depends... Jun 4, 2007

On whether you want a mobile e-mail device (PDA, Blackberry, etc) in sync with your inbox or not...

If you do, make sure that the phone software is Vista compatible.

My biggest problem with Vista so far is that most of non-microsoft software is not ready for the new OS, and doesn't operate on it.

Otherwise, I am a google person, and former IBM Lotus Notes user, I can't help you on the upgrade decision.
