Dictionary won't work

1) I am using OmegaT 2.0.5_4
2) Downloaded dictionary: stardict-ER-LingvoUniversal-2.4.2.tar.bz2 (English-Russian universal dictionary)
3) According to the instruction extracted the three files to "dictionary" folder of the active project
4) Dictionary's pane is active in OmegaT work space but it remains empty all the time.

Question is: are there any specific shortcuts/ additional actions I should do to make the dictionary work?

I researched quite a lot on the Internet, but didn't find any information specific to my problem.

Thank you in advance for help.

Not all StarDict dicitonaries are supported. Aug 29, 2010

Search in the Yahoo! group archives, it’s been discussed. As I understand, StartDict dictionaries can have various specs and not all of them are supported.

Exactly. Only dictionaries with sametypesequence='g' or 'm' can be used.

One can check the type by opening the .ifo file in a text editor.

Note that since 2.1.2, Lingvo DSL dictionaries are supported directly.

TOPIC STARTER
Thank you for the info Aug 30, 2010

I searched in yahoo answers.
There's some info regarding dictionaries formats.
I got a Longman dictionary in "m: format. But it won't work too.
Can anyone share a link to a EN-EN or EN-RU stardict dictionary that 100% works in OmegaT?

The English to Russian here works:

Worked for me Mar 26, 2011

I was having the same problem, but I simply opened the .ifo file of the dictionary in notepad and changed sametypesequence to "g". Now all my dictionaries work!

Since version 2.2.2, there is also partial support for dictionaries with sametypesequence=x.

There's a bug in Java 1.6, and a workaround Sep 4, 2011

There is a known bug in Java 1.6.0_23 and above, which prevents unpacking the dictionaries.

See
- StarDict dictionaries do not work under Java 1.6.0_23
http://sourceforge.net/support/tracker.php?aid=3291242

As mentioned on the tracker, there is a simple workaround:
"Note that this bug only concerns packed dictionaries (with the .dz or .gz
extension).

There is another workaround: if the dictionary is extracted, and named
with the same name as the .ifo file, with a .dict extension, it works."
