Polish electronic dictionary Thread poster: Yngve Roennike

Still looking for an electronic dictionary for Polish. How difficult can it be? Primarily on CD-ROM, installable, although online or Internet dictionaries would also be interesting.

Thanks for the link, however, it looks like that is only a Polish to Polish one. I have sent them an email requesting a bilingual dictionary, general or technical on CD-ROM.

That is an absolutely marvellous site, however, I can\'t take it with me, i.e., if I am working onsite without Internet access. I bought a Polish dictionary some time ago that was supposed to come with a CD-ROM, but that was only a demo version covering the letter A. I think it was from Wydawnictwa Naukowo-Techniczne. There was even an email address on the disk that apparently was working, but needless to say no one bothered to answer. Guess I am still stuck!

Lexland dictionaries are told to be the best. I don\'t use dictionaries on CD-ROM myself, so I don\'t know. But Magda\'s first link is for Mac OS, if you use Windows, you should click here:

...however Magda and Uwe are right. I\'m using Lexland dictionaries on CD-ROM for GermanPolish, so I can\'t directly say how good are the ENPL versions, but GEPL dictionaries on CD-ROM from Lexland are really OK.

Forget Lexland, they are quite unflexible.
Go to www.merlin.com.pl and you can order exactly the same dictionaries on CD-ROM made by Lexland cheaper (!) and they will ship them to you. You can also pay with credit card and it is all no hassle. The dictionaries are as good as it gets, i.e. not any worse than the paper version of them. Here is what to search for:
Leksykonia - Słowniki angielsko-polskie polsko - angielskie. This contains 329,000 entries : general , technical, IT, telecommunications and others.
You can also try to write an e-mail to

Thanks, I will pursue this further. Meanwhile, I finally managed to establish contact with someone at Lexland, who has been helful. Unfortunately, they don\'t have a decent, sizeable Polish-English-Polish just yet, it is slated for September/October issue. They do have a substantial technical Polish-English-Polish one in their stable, at this time, though.
What you refer to must thus be something other than Lexland, i.e., a total package, general, technical, etc. on CD.

I contacted the above address, and got the response that their English-Polish-English CD dictionaries are out of print. I guess it is back to Lexland then.
Anyway, thanks for the tip.
