Pretty much when I feel I have something to contribute that may be helpful - certainly not for the sake of building up Kudoz points. I often find myself answering questions shortly after someone else has helped me out...a bit like linguistic 'karma'

Because of the time difference between Europe and Canada, most questions in my language combination have already been answered by the time I get up. So for me, it's more a matter of choosing which answer(s) to agree or disagree with. But I think that is useful to both the asker and the answerer as well.

I have this childish obsession with accumulating Kudoz points.

Apart from that I find it fun answering questions. But only when I genuinely think I can help the asker. Not wild guesses.

I also use the Kudoz glossary a lot, but with caution, since many of the chosen answers are wide of the mark.
