I think most of us mean that we've have the "oh bugger" moment when you realise something is due NOW and you've just remembered it. Most probably get it done, but in more of a rush than we'd like....

... always on days when there was an avalanche of one-pagers; one got amiss every now and then.

And last month, there was an even more embarassing situation: I did a $US 1,500 job and a day before the deadline asked the client for clarification of a couple of acronyms. The answer I got from him was "I never confirmed the job!" (and indeed he didn't; with 99% jobs from this client being jobs, not inquiries, I took this one for granted either...)

I am a specialist of big night marathon sessions but strangely enough, only for work I am not enjoying (think previous poll about rude clients). I don't really "forget" it but just do all the other work before and underestimate the time I will need.
I never forget a contract for a nice customer and I am ready to work any time, any urgent contract for them. I hope, one day, I'll only work for regular customers
So treat me nicely and I will never forget you!...

I'm that kind of person that forgets everything.

I forget my anniversaries, other people's birthday and so on.

This conversation reminded me that I have to e-mail an agency to ask for some more time to take a test...but they contacted me in June!!!!

Normally, I have long projects, so it's hard to forget translations...

The good thing is that my secretarial course covered all tools to organize myself and my work....

I have forgotten a couple of short jobs before now. I try to put everything into my diary (including my daughter's school stuff and family arrangements), which is lying next to me open on my desk, and I then look at it constantly to make sure I haven't forgotten anything. Actually, this poll has just reminded me to add a short translation I agreed to earlier today to keep a client happy. But I never seem to have any problems remembering the bread and butter ones.

The little stuff on the very busy days Jul 8, 2008

When I have one of those days with one little job after another popping up in my e-mail, it can be easy not only to forget to do one of them, but also to note down the details for payment later. I've never actually forgotten to do a job, but I think I've unwittingly done a few freebies when things are frantic!

When I send a translation, I always mark the email "high priority" and when I do the bills at the end of the month, the first thing I do is go through all the emails sent in the month to make sure I haven't forgotten anything. Even so, I managed to forget to bill a minimum job in January, but the agency noticed a couple of months later and told me to add it onto the next invoice.

I've been shaken out of bed by a client or two myself, but I got used to this while working for the stock market. You'd barely finished a sentence when the quotation changed again... so 200 words in 20 minutes comes easy.

Ohh, wow. That hurts!

I forgot sometimes smaller jobs or have to reschedule some translations- never forget the big ones. Clients are normally very patient with me. It´s just I have to much in mind!

Nice to know I'm in good absent-minded company here.
I'm the one who submitted the poll by the way, and it was right after that painful episode of forgetting to do the test translation. I felt it would be best to not be credited for the poll, just in case the results show that 99% never forget anything - I'd be too embarrassed to admit I'm one of 1%!

As soon as I get new assignment, I mark that email as "to do", which makes it red, so each time I take a look at my emails, I see there is something to do.

So far it's been working fine for me

I almost missed the deadline...

But I had been delivering other similar jobs in advance, so that the customer called me just because she thought that was strange that I did not.... !!!

Some time ago, I tried something like this; I said "let's mark all e-mails coming from these guys as important, so I see them in red"... but I receive around 40 work e-mails a day, along with 200 spam messages. Somehow I managed to get all marked in red... ... aggg!!

Now I use a small "To-do-list" application, but as Henry said above, it only works fine as far as I don't fail to keep track of it.
