No, I'm a translator - I translate.

Not if I can help it.
I have to add that I find the question's underlying supposition (i.e., that translating is somehow insufficient) irritating.

I will do double even triple backflips for customers who pay 10x more than others - however painful it'll be.
At least the extra spondoolicks will pay for the hospital expenses.
Happy backflips! | | | |

I assume, perhaps wrongly, that the question is directed at those who learned a new language or attained a new qualification/certification or similar, and I didn't.
So, I'll be continuing with the same services as before, only with a year more experience I hope I'll be providing them better.
Best wishes to all for a happy 2012!

Why would the new year mean new services? This poll looks like a modified version of the New Year's resolutions poll. Changes in what I do may happen at any given time, not with the new year, in my experience. I was a translator, and then I became an interpreter at some point in my life, but it didn't happen with a calendar change!

Translating and reviewing/proofreading with a side job of transcribing has been enough to keep me well fed in 2011. I currently have no plans to offer more than that. Although now that I think about it, DTP and graphics editing both sound pretty tempting.

I am a translator on the 31st December and I will still be a translator on the 1st January, only one day older... Best wishes for 2012!

I will be offering more contract abstraction and adding legal document review, both in French and Spanish.

There are lots of skills I use in translating that I am thinking could be worth advertising as separate services, eg:
- pdf conversion & clean-up
- "gisting"/light MT post-editing
- copy-editing
- copywriting
Advertising them as separate services has the added advantage of highlighting the complex set of skills that a translator has beyond "knowing another language".
Happy New Year!

No more proofreading, no more abstracting or gisting, no more transcription, no more DTP. I'm happiest when I'm translating, and translating pays the best. Why bother with other services?

I am charging new clients for pdf conversion, OCR, DTPing etc, separately or increasing the amount of hours or money, as this kind of tasks consume my time anyway, and that's what I charge money for: my time.
