Metropolis Jan 23

It does depend on who I am traveling with, or if I am traveling alone. Alone, I would prefer a metropolis, but in the past I have had nice vacations at the beach or in the mountains when in the company of others.

I tried a vacation at an isolated beach with just myself and my dogs, and after a few days I got homesick for civilization.

All of the above Jan 23

I voted 'Other' because the preference would depend entirely on the time of the year and company. I'm not averse to holidaying in any of those places

Anything but the beach.

Also not my hometown, since I live there already.

I have quite decent beaches within an hour's distance of home and even nicer ones only a couple of hours away, so I can go there quite often. For a change, I might prefer the mountains, but am not averse to spending a few days in a city as long as it is interesting.

I suppose any vacation is good, although I don't see the allure of cruise holidays myself, as I'm sure I'd feel claustrophobic being stuck on a boat for days on end. Recently I've been thinking about some kind of learning experience combined with a holiday, for example intensive driving courses or scuba diving, but (as usual) have no specific plans...

Which beach? Jan 23

I'm not sure if we have the same concept of "beach" here. Mine does not mean the kind stuffed with parasols and people on sunloungers stubbing their cigarettes out in the sand, but quiter, harder to reach areas with few if any people ...

Hi neilmac,

I mean all beaches (but of course crowded ones even more). I like swimming but I don't really enjoy beaches, I'm annoyed by the sand, salt, etc. and I don't like tanning. Plus I very quickly get bored. So if I happen to be near a beautiful beach, I may go there for half a day maximum, but not more. That's incidental, never a goal in itself.

All of the above Jan 23

Since during the year I spend most of my time in one place, in front of computer screen, when I go on holidays I never just lay on a beach. I usually move a lot, travelling from city to mountains to the beach (to swim) to the country. Just not to sit in one place. For some it may look tiring but for me it works just fine

Distant and exotic places Jan 23

like Syria (not at the moment, unfortunately), Iran (more or less ditto), Uzbekistan, central China. Beaches are abhorrent. Mountains good for a weekend break, cities (=Vienna) a day out.
