I use Avast, it's free, much better than the bundled Norton or Panda crocks I was railroaded into using previously, and it updates itself automatically every time the PC boots up, telling you in a friendly female voice it has done so. Never had an issue with it in 2 years.

I no longer have a classical "antivirus software" on my network.
My former computer geek made the whole system very safe in a different way and I use only webmail that automatically scans each and every mail before I can download anything.
Also, the wifi connexion appears "open", but I challenge you to try and connect
My new computer technician calls the former paranoid about security and will see to it (at the end of this week) that the system is safe using a different technique.
I do have Microsoft Security Essentials though (comes with the machine/software) which runs every day and which I update once a week. It detected a few Trojan horses from contaminated websites, about one every 2 or 3 months.

I use Sophos, which, to the best of my understanding, updates the system automatically and scans on a pretty-much permanent basis. My husband is a computer consultant and it would be beyond embarrassing if he was the source of a virus infestation for his customers, so we don't take any risks!

Twice a week Jan 26

Probably twice a week, using the free version of AVG. I've never had a problem with it.

Does anyone actually care? Jan 26

Why would anyone have the slightest interest in how often another person's software updates?

Mine updates itself every day.

How much antivirus protection you have (and how often it is updated/maintained) reflects how much you value your and your customers' data.

I can only recommend lots of protection, more than you actually need. And, don't tell anyone!Ssshhh! Hush hush!

Happy translating!

McAfee does it automatically and slows down the PC but at least I'm not uploading translations with viruses or receiving them

Every day Jan 26

Every day I switch my computer on my Internet Security software (Norton) checks for required updates and updates if required. I am really surprised at anyone asking this question for I think any web/Internet security software worthy of the name does it automatically.

With Kapersky the updates - if available - are made as soon as I go online.
This way I don't have to remember.
