Multiple answers and longer access to the results Jun 22, 2005

I took a look at the polling feature and have a couple of questions:

Todays poll asks what browser is used; I don't know about the others, but I use two of the browsers listed. I can only mark one - perhaps the possibility of offering multiple answers on questions like these would be a good idea.

If I understand the concept correctly, the results will be shown for one day. That seems a bit short to me - in fact, I think that the results should be perpetual, like everything else on the site.

Either way, the site is great and getting better all the time.

-Derek

Suggestions Jun 22, 2005

I suggest you set a poll every Mondays, with the possibility to vote till Sunday night.

Some ideas for future polls :

Which CAT tool ? (Deja Vu, Wordfast, SDLX, Trados, Others)
Year income (between so and so etc.)
Direct clients vs agencies
Which OS
How many use skype ?

Hi Derek,

Past poll results will continue to be available on the polls page (select Community->Polls from the main menu). They will only be removed from the home page one day after you answer the poll.

As Henry noted earlier, these polls are mainly intended to provoke thought and discussion, and to give a broad, unscientific summary of answers to a specific question. In the future we may look into allowing the selection of multiple answers, or more detailed fill-in-the-blank answers. But for now, just pick the single answer that seems most appropriate: in this case, pick the browser you use most frequently.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Best regards,

Jason

where is Netscape? Jun 22, 2005

Hi Jason,
For some polls (including today's) it might be sensible to permit multiple responses.

Cheers, Ralf

Agree with Ralf-I could have marked two for today's poll. BTW-why is Netscape only considered "other"? Mr Gates would be very pleased, I'm sure....

Link to discussion Jun 23, 2005

Hi,

I have just visited the Poll's page (Community->Polls). Although I can see all past (closed) and open polls, there is unfortunately no link that takes me to the forum thread which is created with every poll.

It might be a good idea to add that link at the bottom of the poll results.

Sonja

And "Related Links" from the "Proz Polls" & "[Poll]Discussion" Forums Jun 24, 2005

And "Related Links" from the "Proz Polls" & "[Poll]Discussion" Forums (at the foot, like forum pages have),

going to (a hidden marker?) position on the Home Page, so that it opens with the current Poll box (middle right) easy to see.

That would help make it a little bit easier/quicker to find, after reading the forums about it.

Still problems with "Suggest Poll" Jun 27, 2005

I click on the link and get "Error on page". Is this a problem on Proz side, or am I suppossed to enable/disable anything in my IExplorer? I have my Java running, so can't see what else....

The poll idea is GREAT; the person who came up with this should be given an honorary Proz Medal I can see it as a tool for putting many of us on the right track (ehm, if you are not on it already, that is). Bravo, bravo

Why not none? Jul 3, 2005

What is your favourite CAT tool?

I see that this poll is coming up soon. Why no option to answer "none"? Surely I'm not the only one who doesn't use a CAT

I think polls are a great idea, THANK YOU! Jul 14, 2005

I would like to suggest that other members be given the choice to add questions to proposed polls.

this a very useful feature Jul 27, 2005

Thanks for launching the polls feature - I like the polls very much. There is much food for thought here!
