Pending polls - who decides when they are shown? Aug 9, 2005

I was wondering who decides what polls are published and when they are published.

There are a number of pending polls which have been there for some time now, but it seems that more recent polls have been activated while the older ones are still pending.

Who decides which polls make it to the list of pending polls, and who then actually activates a pending poll?

Please note that I am not criticizing anyone here, I am just curious how the actual process of approving a suggestion, adding it to the list of pending polls and finally activating it works.

Sonja

Info on poll status Aug 20, 2005

Me too. I suggested a poll some time ago, and have no information if it's been approved, and when is it likely to be on.

Would it be possible for people who suggest polls to be informed on the status of their poll (by email maybe?), e.g.:

thanks for suggesting a poll. yours is the 222nd in the queue of polls being considered for publication.

we'll let you know if and when you poll will be visible to others.

what do you think?

"suggest a poll" link leads to a blank box (fixed, thanks) Sep 4, 2005

Hello!
I had an idea for a poll so I clicked on the "suggest a poll" link but the output is a blank window.
A broken link? A bug?

I am pasting the copied link here:

javascript: msgWindow = window.open('/?sp=poll_suggest&float=y','msgWindow','width=550,height=480,scrollbars=yes,resize=ye s'); msgWindow.focus();

Thanks, DZ

-----

it's working fine today, thanks

When I suggested a poll, it never appeared on the pending polls list, so I thought it had been rejected. Then, several weeks after I suggested it, it was the poll of the day. Meanwhile some suggested polls that were on the pending list even before I nominated my poll are still there. What gives?

There don't seem to be any hard and fast rules. I suggested a poll and it was posted within 24 hours, which is hardly fair to those that are in the pending polls list and have been for weeks. Also, some polls seem to be around for far longer than 24 hours and others disappear really quite quickly.

character length Sep 24, 2005

Is there a character length restriction to poll answers? I suggested a poll where the answers are short sentences. 7 answers in total. I tried twice but got a system error saying the poll wasn't recorded. What to do?

non-english pulls Dec 10, 2005

i have suggested a pull about a week ago and it was written in BCS... it never appeared on the list of pending pulls, so i suggested the same pull, but in english this time... i guess the first one was not approved because of the language, and i would therefore like to ask the staff to delete the BCS pull if it is - for whatever reason - somewhere in the list of pending ones! the english one, should it be approved, is the same adn i would like to avoid duplication...

thanks, d.

I like joining polls Mar 24, 2006

I think qiuck polls help translators to treat, joke, to get news in Proz.com, and share ideas with each other. I like it! Besides I can get to know about interpreters.

My comments to the polls are not posted May 22, 2006

I have posted several comments to different polls, but they do not appear? I've been wondering whether they were vetoed or they simply are supposed not to appear on my screen?

I would appreciate if someone could tell me if it's a problem or my posts were really vetoed. In such a case, may I know the reasons?

Hello Claudia May 22, 2006

It seems you have made two postings so far: this one I am replying to and this one here: http://www.proz.com/post/343373#343373 However, throughout the last weekend, there was a bug in the site that caused some problems in forum messages. If you are sure that you have posted more messages, please submit a Support Request. Or, alternatively, if you know which threads you posted in, please drop me a line at my profile and I will search them for you.

Regards,
Özden

Claudia's messages now restored May 23, 2006

A bug affecting the site forums over the weekend of 20-21 May, caused messages by non-member & non-VIDed posters not to appear even to moderators. In forums where there was a moderator assigned, we could at least know that postings were made thanks to e-mail notifications. But for those where no moderator was assigned, no one received even an e-mail notification, therefore there might be still messages that no one can see. For those who have posted in the forums through 20 to 21 May, and who have not yet seen their messages come online, I suggest contacting any moderator if they know which thread they have posted in, or submitting a Support Request otherwise.

Regards,
Özden

About polls again... Feb 2, 2007

Polls are a great idea. I like checking them every day. I just wish that there were more polls about translation work itself than about how it affects our social life..., but, anyway, it is a great feature and I think that we, as members, should all contribute to making this feature an even more useful tool in our hands.

It's really incredible how u guys are negative about polls! Sep 2, 2007

I think that polls are a brilliant idea that make the ProZ.com more interactive and more vivid! why wondering about who posted them or how idiotic they are ! you are really amazing guys.
I really hoped to see much enthusiasm about this original and creative idea, it really merits a medal of honor.

A great idea! Nov 2, 2008

As Henry said, they provoke thought.

Also, you feel that you are not alone dealing with similar issues/problems.

Thanks and have a very nice Sunday!

Alicia
