Which once again proofs that a combination of both is the best. First, a linguistic education, so that at least you master the source and target-language upto a certain level suited for translation from and to your target-language and a specialisation, so that you understand what you translate. no degree in languages

I don't have a degree in languages.
I have a a PhD and a degree in dentistry, and a certificate in paediatric dentistry ssued by a Japanese college.
I lived and studied at a dental college in Japan for 2 years, and Puerto Rico, 2 more years.
Resident in USA since 2002.
Assistant editor for a dental journal published in english.

my one and only degree is the one from the Warsaw Institute of Applied Linguistics (translator, interpreter and teacher of DE and EN).
The rest is experience.
