Vis-a-vis Spanish, many French words differ.
This is less the case with Italian. Or is it because when at a school for Translators and Interpreters, I typed a lot of assignments in Italian for a female fellow student.
I never studied it, but I do understand it. She explained words which words were different, like f.e. "mi esposa" and "la mia moglie".
To me, Portuguese sounds like a dialect of Spanish or is it vice-versa in the ears of Portguese-speaking people.
I always joke that it is Spanish spoken with a "hot potato" in the mouth. I always answer Portuguese speaking people in Spanish and vice-versa. The strange thing is that we understand each other.
