Soa realmente muito mal "tornar-se em" com ou sem o artigo. Como declarado na segunda resposta do site Ciberduvidas, provavelmente se trata de uma liberdade poética, isolada, mas soa realmente mal, pelo menos aos ouvidos de um brasileiro.
