Como se especializar por conta própria em diferentes áreas da tradução?

Sabemos que no mercado de tradução ser especialista em determinada área é vantajoso. Eu por exemplo, já trabalhei muito com qualidade alimentar, auditorias, mineração, geologia etc. O contato com esses assuntos foram diretamente nas empresas onde trabalhei. Sinto que preciso expandir para outras áreas, nesse caso eu pergunto, que sugestão os colegas dariam para que eu pudesse me especializar, digamos assim, em outras áreas?
No momento estou traduzindo textos apenas de medicina do Francês para o Português, e da área petrolífera do Inglês para o Português. Essas traduções são apenas como exercício. Vocês acham que essa é uma maneira adequada de me especializar? O que mais devo fazer?

Hi there
I have the same problem. Although I got my Diploma in Translation last year from the Institute of Linguists with three Distinctions, I am beginning to realize that I really need to specialise to get more work. I have Masters degrees in International Relations and Latin American Studies but these are not areas which generate a lot of work (at least not on ProZ). I also feel fairly comfortable in the area of businessas I taught in the business school at a University in London. I have thought of doing a short course in something like legal or medical translation, but haven't found any. I am moving to Portugal later this year, so maybe there will something in London I can do/take. Like you, I practise on my own but a qualification in a specialisation would be good. I too would welcome suggestions.

Olá, colegas,
Após 10 anos trabalhando com Oil & Gas, meu interesse atual é especializar-me no setor das traduções jurídicas. A solução que encontrei por hora é frequentar cursos online. Aqui no Proz mesmo há cursos via webinar.
Também contatei uma universidade com cursos à distância, e descobri que posso fazer matérias sem necessariamente ter que me inscrever num curso de Direito. Pago por matéria e posso fazer a prova no final do curso, se assim desejar. Acho que poderia ser uma boa alternativa para adquirir o saber que a área das traduções jurídicas requer.

farias as provas e a universidade daria um certificado, caso aprovado - é isso? Poderia fornecer o nome da universidade? Tenho procurado por essa possibilidade há tempos, mas não encontrei nada semelhante online. Também estou em busca de outras especializações, assim como os colegas, e tenho investido em cursos de tradução na área (jurídica, marketing, etc).
