Hello everyone, and thank you for showing an early interest in this powwow.
I am intending to see how many we have who plan to attend before we choose a venue that is convenient. At the moment I think a coffee shop or similar will be alright for our needs, any thoughts?

Hello Ruth - and thank you for taking the initiative and organising this event.
A coffee shop that isn't too loud or crowded should suffice: unfortunately, the ones in the centre of town (Starbucks and its ilk) tend to be both!
How about a pub that also serves (good) coffee?! The Platform Tavern (opposite Red Funnel) is rather appealing: very mellow and offbeat. Alternatively, we could look at a more generic sort of venue: perhaps Holiday Inn?
Further suggestions, anyone?

Another couple of possible places - though I haven't been there for some time so not sure if they are still nice - are Joe Daflo's, quite a large, nice-looking place opposite the Mayflower Theatre on Commercial Road or the Art House in the centre (Above Bar Street), if there will not be too many of us as it is relatively small. Regarding Jo Daflo's, it tends to get really busy if there is a show at the theatre so it's something we 'd need to check, should we decide to consider it as a possible venue. They are both on google if you want to check them out

I have also just thought of the John Lewis Cafe which is nice as well!

Lots of nice places on Oxford Street in Southampton. One of them is The White Star tavern. Really cosy. As for mentioned above Joe Daflo's, Pinelopi is right, it used to be very nice and it still seems to be quite popular therefore it could be a good choice.

Hi everyone, and thank you for all your enthusiasm so far!
I agree that Oxford Street has some nice places, I also know of a couple of nice coffee houses in Bedford Place that are independent and quieter than the big ones. I am happy to levae the decision for another week until we know how many people we are definitely expecting, and then we can take a view on the venue and times that are suitable for everyone.
Looking forward to it | | | |

Hello everybody.
Less than a week to go!
I think that due to its central location and nice atmosphere, we should go with Penelopi's suggestion of the Art House Café. It is right in Above Bar, here is their website: http://www.thearthousesouthampton.co.uk/
They open from 12pm, so we would have to put the meeting time back, if everyone is OK with this. It also means Pinelopi should be able to make it more easily.
Paul - sorry that you can't make this date, but if it is a successful powwow, I am sure we can arrange another one!
So please let me know if you have a problem with the final meeting place - The Art House Café at 12 midday next Saturday 11 February. Looking forward to meeting you all!

Hello Ruth and everyone,
I am so sorry I did not make it to the powwow... I have just received an email about the event's report and visited this page but never actually received Ruth's last message about the final place and time of the meeting. I could not have made it on Saturday unfortunately as we were invited - kind of last minute - to a friend's baby daughter's 1st birthday (all is about babies in my life at the moment... hopefully not for too long I hope you enjoyed it and I would be very interested in attending a future powwow in Southampton!
