Hello All,

I was wondering whether anyone would have any knowledge/thoughts about the Localization Certification Program offered by California State University, Chico Center for Regional and Continuing Education and Research Foundation, The Globalization and Localization Association (GALA), and The Localization Institute this coming March in San Francisco: http://rce.csuchico.edu/localize/

In particular, whether this program/certificate would be worth investing the time and money.

TIA,
Sabine

The answer is no, absent apparent ROI in terms of future work. Dec 23, 2008

Greetings.

Re your query about the return on investment (ROI) of your time and money in completing that university's certification program.

Unless you foresee abundant job opportunities for localization and for which that "certification" would be an advantageous factor in your selection and engagement, the answer is no.

Instead, you might consider some of the State of CA-recognized certification programs offered by various institutions in California in legal and medical interpreting, or the MIIS degree programs (BA & MA) in translation and interpreting in your language pair [MIIS = Monterey Institute of International Studies, www.miis.edu].

Hope this helps.
