Thanks Kabayan ... Jul 14, 2006

Often this info is worth its weight in gold as many Americans consider their year abroad in Spain as an asignatura pendiente. I hope this helps lots of people. Nevertheless, what should be highlighted is that Spanish Universities are a lot more affordable than American ones and so if a person is unable to get the scholarship, he or she may still be able to study abroad.

Hi John Jul 14, 2006

What's being offered here are residency stipends of 1,200 eu/mo (600 eu/mo if the State places you in a student residence [Colegio Mayor]), tuition to be paid by the State if you are accepted at a State institution (or the option for tuition aid at 2,000 eu), and possible transportation assistance.

Unless you're aiming at a really expensive private institution of the type that charges 12,000 eu a year, you shouldn't even think about it.

What I know about the Colegios Mayores ... Jul 14, 2006

... are that they are excellent places for people to study. They are a lot better than the US dorms ( that´s my opinion at least) and many of the Colegios Mayores are typically traditional Spanish buildings adding to the enchantment of living in Spain.
