MET is probably the only association in Spain offering continuous professional development (CPD) for translators to English and editors (of native/non-native writing in English) that goes well beyond basic language and translation training.

A series of 8 high-quality, focused workshops is about to start in the Barcelona area, of particular interest to anyone who works with academic and scientific texts.

The topics include: understanding how different genres affect style, how to improve text flow though information ordering and punctuation, how to deal with author citations and detect plagiarism (including inadvertent plagiarism and 'translation' plagiarism), and using corpora to guide translation and editing.

The presenters are expert translators and editors, with scientific and/or linguistic backgrounds, and with established reputations as language service providers to authors, universities, medical publishers, government departments, banks, multinationals, etc.

CPD certificates are issued to participants on request.

The first workshop - a free 'social-cultural' event based on a showing of the film "Destiny" - is this Friday, start time 17.30, at the Institut Europeu de la Mediterrània. C/Girona 20 (Barcelona), nearest metro Urquinaona.

For those of you living in the Barcelona area, I strongly encourage you to take come along and learn a little more about MET and what it does and is planning to do:-)

Full workshop details are available from:
