Come on guys... You gotta be kidding! How can a just tinly eccentric icon bother your sensitivity, distract your attention or even look \"disgusting\"? I personally think that the more a picture attracts attention, the more our profile will be read by possible clients (I admit I go check other colleagues\' profiles when their icon looks intriguing!)... not anybody else, and everybody has a right to their opinion, especially when expressed in private to the person affixing the icon. Personally, I don\'t find it either disgusting or distasteful, but as I said in the other thread, just a tad juvenile; Giovanni has come up with interesting icons starting with his gorgeous daughter Isabella, if I recall correctly. Bring Isabella back, Giovanni, or all your children in a group picture! paola l m

If I´m given a good answer to a question, I don´t really care about the face of the colega helping me.
To be honest I don´t like his icon but I think we have the right to put (almost) any icon. This one may not be nice but it is not offensive or aggresive.
But how GREAT it is to have this place to exchange ideas about things (i.e. life...!!!)

Regards,
Antonella: I have a friend who says that in the picture I have a Heidi-look which does not convey the idea that I´m a 41 year old Legal Translator. As if I did not look \"reliable\". Appearences are deceptive. My CV is in the profile. I´m not going to change my picture even if it has that childish look. What am I supposed to do? Wear glasses and sit close to my beloved dictionaries and try (highly difficult) to look SERIOUS?
Just my thougths to be shared with my great COLEGAS ....
Cheers from Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA.... ▲ Collapse | | |
You do look a lot younger in your photo, Aurora, but it doesn\'t mean you look unprofessional, you\'re just a lucky girl that looks younger than her age!

I have participated in too many forums frequently visited by psychopaths, skinheads, idiots, Satan worshippers, fanatics, sex maniacs and ax murderers (just kidding about the ax murderers, about the others... unfortunately not). I have not seen them around here yet, but... you never know who visits the forums.
Anyway I feel too identified with my \"Reading Smiley.\" Just hope it will not be ever ruled out as \"unprofessional\"

Maya Jurt Switzerland Local time: 21:32 French to German + ... You must feel comfortable with your icon - not others! | Mar 30, 2002 |
That\'s the idea, Silvina. Giovanni\'s icon is intriguing, so you go and have a look at his profile and discover a very straight forward language and a lot of talent. How we judge it is up to us. It\'s great to have different icons from different people. I see that some change it every two weeks or so. That also tells us something. But our interpretation is probably not the same as the person\'s who puts it up. Greetings and happy week-end Maya | | | An image can speak louder than 1,000 words | Mar 31, 2002 |
A couple of weeks ago I changed my picture for the rainbow-hat picture you see on the left.
I did it on purpose because I\'m burnt-out, recovering from a RSI injury and working mostly as an interpreter for local clients. As a consequence I didn\'t want PMs emailing me during this period.
I don\'t think that the rainbow-hat picture is outrageous, but it doesn\'t convey the \"send me work, I\'m an excellent professional idea\". It has a \"I\'m on vacation... See more A couple of weeks ago I changed my picture for the rainbow-hat picture you see on the left.

Well, I will tell you one thing: it worked. The e-mails from PMs dwindled to almost zero during this period. I didn\'t change anything in my profile other than the picture. I\'m still a software localization specialist, blah blah blah. So how do you explain that?
The business world is conservative. If you want to attract clients through ProZ, make sure you look conservative in your picture.
I\'ll be changing mine as soon as I feel up to more translation work again.
