Dear members,

ProZ.com is governed by rules created to extend and protect the pleasant, results-oriented atmosphere of the translation workplace, but for all their importance our rules were scattered, incomplete and presented room for improvement.

To tackle this issue we worked hard (with the inestimable help of the site moderators) in order to:
- Assemble all current rules
- Find out missing or outdated rules
- Integrate all rules in a coherent body
- produce a user-friendly display of the rules

Please visit our new site rules page at http://www.proz.com/siterules and let us know your opinions.

The new rules have been integrated into a coherent whole, but for better readability we have grouped them into five categories: general, KudoZ, forum, jobs and Blue Board (with KudoZ and jobs further divided into three categories each). Besides, each rule is preceded by a one-sentence definition.

To facilitate the transition from the old to the new rules we have added an extra column with the old rule(s) related to the new one ("F” and “K” mean Forum & KudoZ rules respectively).

We are aware that a change of this magnitude may generate temporary inconsistencies with other parts of the site such as FAQs (feedback welcome). Besides some time will elapse before our volunteers in charge on the localization efforts manage to cope with this new burden we have created for them. On the other hand we firmly believe this change will be very positive for the site and its community

Kind regards,
Enrique

Great work May 31, 2006

Thank you, Enrique, great work.

Some minor things to fix:

a) Under Forum rules I can see this:

Job - 1. Rules for postings
Job - 1. Rules for posting

I suppose it should read
Jobs - 1. Rules for postings

b) Numbering is messed up under Forum rules / Job - 1, General Rules / Kudoz - 2, and Blue Board rules.

Forum rules / Job - 1:
1.1
1.1
1.11
1.12
1.2 etc.
The second

The second "1.1" should be "1.10", and rule numbers should be listed in increasing rather than lexicographic order.

Kind regards,
Attila

Suggestion May 31, 2006

Consider amending Site Rule 2, to include staff and moderators.

Thanks but no need for that. Moderators and staff are also site users and must follow all the rules of the site.

Regards,
Enrique

I like it so much, I think it bears repeating here:

Mutual respect, professionalism and fair play are expected. Enrique,

who should we contact if a moderator or staff member is rude to us or anyone else for that matter?

In this case you should send a support ticket.

Enrique
