When the first translation contest was announced the following note was included:
Note: Participation in this contest is optional. Members who are not interested in participating (or even disagree with the contests in principle) are kindly asked to withhold comment until after the first contest is closed, in order to allow those who choose to participate to do so with minimal distraction.
Please note that the contest, now in its voting phase, is still open. Two threads were deleted in this forum because they involved discussions on the contest.
Please withhold comment until after the contest is closed.

Fair enough, I guess. I admit that my first reaction was "oh no, more c*****ship of contentious postings", but you're quite right, the rules did say that.
Can I just add in defence of those who started & contributed to those threads that, if you did not intend to enter the contest (which seemed to be the case for most of those involved), then you were hardly likely to read the rules for it!! So I hope you will be gentle with them... See more

However, those threads did, in my view, contain some valid points for discussion, and in some cases, much time and effort had obviously gone into the postings.
Rather than just "deleting" them, as if they had never happened, would it be possible to simply hide and suspend them until the deadline has passed, and then resurrect or reinstate them? Discussion can then resume after the contest is closed. ▲ Collapse

We'll open a thread for discussion after the contest closes - probably in focus mode (ie. one post per member) - and will welcome feedback on voting policies, etc. in that thread.
Thanks!
