This is the end of those annoying windows... Aug 22, 2002

Thanks very much. Everyone knows how much time we spend, no, waste closing those windows.

Free Surfer Aug 22, 2002

I used Pop-Up Killer for a while, it was some help, but not enough. I am now using one called Free Surfer which I find much more efficient. Read more about it at:

Another alternative... Aug 22, 2002

I\'ve also used pop-up killer in the past, but have recently switched to mozilla (the browser) and now I no longer need it. Mozilla is great if you haven\'t tried it - in addition to no more pop-up windows, there\'s tabbed browsing. Once you start browsing this way, you\'ll wonder how you ever surfed before.

Careful with Pop Up killer Aug 22, 2002

I tried it out for a few days, but some applications (which use popup windows as part of their regular operation) then no longer work. I had to give up on it entirely.

And one MORE alternative Aug 22, 2002

Try opera. It has become my browser of choice and stops pop-ups BEFORE they get to you.

It is free and runs just fine on my old Pentium II with Win95.

Agree with Jccantrell. Aug 23, 2002

Besides Opera is VERY stable, reliable and convenient. It’s an excellent browsing tool unlike IE.

Proxomitron Aug 23, 2002

I have been using Proxomitron for some time and I love it. See http://home.arcor.de/six/

It doesn\'t just kill pop-up windows but also leaves blank squares where there are adverts (even on ProZ ), gives you more control over what info your browser sends to servers, etc.

Sounds miraculous but really works.

MODERATOR
and another alternative: Beonex Aug 27, 2002

Similar to Mozilla --actually, based on it--, no pop-ups, high security, strict with cookies. And only crashed *once* in several months (unlike IE or NN)!
