Dear colleagues,

I would appreciate if you could provide me with your opinion on what is the best practice in ProZ. I have recently asked a KudoZ question for which I received only one answer. I found out later that this answer was incorrect. However, ProZ keeps asking to award KudoZ. What shall I do? Should I award points even when the answer provided was incorrect?

Thank you for your insights.

Mahu

There's also a "decline answer" button Sep 13, 2002

When you go to the link provided for grading your answer, you have two options for each answer:

\"Accept this answer as the most helpful\"

or

\"Decline this answer\"

When you select the second variant, you are asked to provide a very brief explanation for that (about 20-30 characters). When you decline all answers, I believe the question is considered closed. (At least you receive no more \'please grade\' messages.

Good luck!

Another option Sep 13, 2002

I usually select the \'nearest\' and give min. Kudoz 2 points as I find that 1 is really... miserere... for a colleague who made a research at least and tried to help even if the answer provided was not correct. Then I enter the correct translation in the glossary!

Bye

Software glitch? Sep 13, 2002

I think there was an early software glitch in Proz.com, whereby if you declined the answers, it would keep coming back at you, even threatening you with exclusion, if you persisted in not awarding points. It may have been remedied. Better to award one lowly point, than run into this situation again

"Decline" doesn't close the question Sep 13, 2002

I once declined all three answers I had received to a question, as I didn\'t feel any of them were correct. I sent each answerer a thank-you e-mail explaining why I was declining the answer (even though the system also lets you give this info. when declining). However, I still kept receiving the \"Please grade\" messages, and to this day it still shows as an ungraded question. I, too, would like to see this issue addressed. I think there should be some way for askers to close a question without necessarily selecting one of the answers.

You should decline answers that are not correct Sep 13, 2002

You should not award points just to close a question. Please decline all inappropriate answers. Doing so should prevent you from receiving email reminders (though a question will still be shown under the category of ungraded questions in searches, etc.)

If anyone has evidence to the contrary, please let me know, citing the specific question. (Note that if there were three answers, all of which you declined, and another answer is later added, you will once again be subject to reminders.)

Declining 10+ answers may be cumbersome Sep 14, 2002

If a question receives many answers, all of them incorrect (which is not very rare), it would be easier to have a \"Decline all answers and close question\" button.

I\'ve had this situation at least three times, when a particularly difficult term remained unelucidated.
