Greetings from Buenos Aires!

Site staff, a handful of moderators, a few sponsors and nearly 300 members and guests are right now beginning to celebrate the 7th anniversary of the site with our 4th international conference. It is seven years to the day since the site went online as a translation workplace and the community we have today began to form.

For the conference, a great lineup of speakers has been arranged by Aurora Humaran, in a great venue.

Registration is now underway. For those who can't be here, we'll post the first batch of pictures tomorrow. Most speakers have agreed to make the content of their sessions available online.

From the site staff, thank you all for making ProZ.com possible, and letting us serve you by providing tools and opportunities to network, expand your business, do better work and have more fun.

So happy birthday! We'll keep you posted...

Great to know that after 7 years we're celebrating the "birthday" with the 4th international conference.

So, ProZ, you're seven ... Aug 25, 2006

...

When I was seven, I spent my afternoons under a bridge in Manchester giving sweets to girls in exchange for kisses. Come to think of it, I suppose you do much the same thing with KudoZ.

When I hear the word "seven", I think of all kinds of things.

I think of the film "Seven". The good guys are a pair of translators at opposite ends of their careers. Brad Pitt is new on the job, full of energy and high ideals, and ready to "make a difference" by creating a Trados memory. Morgan Freeman is in his last week on the job. His long years studying specialist literature and following up on references have left him weary and jaded. To him, being a translator isn't about building databases -- it's about methodically collecting and cataloguing credible source information in case a customer ever needs it.

I also think of the seven deadly sins - superbia (sounds alright to me), avaritia (OK, one-all), luxuria (huh?), invidia (what's wrong with Ricky Martin?), gula (I'll come back to that one), ira (they've been decommissioned, surely?), acedia (I can't even be ar*ed to look that one up).

I think of "Seven Brides For Seven Brothers" – not quite sure why, but probably because I never knew Howard Keel could sing and dance so well.

I think of the "Magnificent Seven" - Beate, Klaus, Margaret, Robin, Ralf … No, this is silly. Do your own list.

And, of course, I think of the seven dwarves – in particular Grumpy (who refuses to provide any context when asking questions), Sleepy (who posts an answer three hours after an identical answer appeared on the board) and Dopey (the moderator who approves my forum postings despite their political and religious content).

Thanks and congratulations, too! Aug 25, 2006

Although I may not be/have been as active in Proz.com, I have been registered in this site almost since it was launched.

Regardless of my degree of participation, after all these years, I still and definitely consider Proz.com a useful and interesting site, which offers all kinds of information related to translation, languages, etc.

But what I find particularly appealing about what Proz.com offers (in comparison to other similar sites) is the dynamic/alive interaction (whether you are a paying or non-paying member) with other freelance colleagues from the whole wide world, who are willing to generously share experiences/information (positive or negative) both personal and professional. I value the possibility of having access to and/or contributing to that human connection/feedback above all.

So my best wishes for this anniversary, and for a continuous and improved future.

Sincerely,

Ivette

keep them all going. My congratulations and thanks for this great site. Infact only today I went through all those entry frames and wondered howmuch development there is since the beginning. Ingeneous design and dedication indeed. Or may be you can post a movie of the venue too in .avi or so. Best Brandis
