How satisfying are the services of proZ in webhosting?

Even after being unheard at \"Get Support\" (stale news) to get clarification on certain issues, I\'m still seriously considering getting myself webhosted by proZ.

Just wanted to hear various proZ & conZ, about their dis/satisfaction with webhosting services of proZ.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

We believe that every independent professional should have his/her own web address. (This gives you the opportunity to refer clients to a place that is your own.) With the hosting solution, we have made this as simple and inexpensive as possible.





As a platinum member, you pay only the domain registration fee, and you pay nothing at all for hosting for the rest of the year. In other words, the hosting service is included as part of your platinum membership. (By comparison, hosting of your own domain anywhere else on the web will run around $8/month.)





Having said that, ProZ.com hosting is *not* competitive in functionality with most of what is available from professional hosting companies. We do not offering database support, scripting, or other advanced services, and for example, your hosting package includes only one email address. (There was also an outage of several days a few months ago; this is less likely to have happened with a more expensive hosting-only company.) But if you are just looking to have a place to call your own, and use as an extended business card, we think ProZ.com hosting is the best value available.





There are also a few small unique things, like the ability to include your KudoZ history, etc. There are some excellent sites that members have created.

Thanks Henry, for addressing some of my concerns, and for being honest and straightforward.

Just one more question - what changes do you envisage in future?

For, I think it\'s worth considering the situations, where you proudly display your url and it refuses to open, or takes five minutes to open - and - you receive an email offering you a job of a few k$s, after seven days...

For, as they say, sometimes it\'s better not to have a horse than to have a bad one.



P.S. Feeling very optimistic this morning, I\'m again going to try \"Get Support\", for other technical queries.

Right. When we had the outage, at least one person experienced delays in getting a file from a client. This was embarassing to the member, and embarassing to me personally. We have taken steps to prevent a repeat.



Still, while we do backups and our colocation provider is one of the best--with security, backup power supplies and the best interconnects--I can not promise our hosting service will not go down again someday. We have a limited staff and cannot offer the same type of assurances a large hosting specialist can.



On the other hand (and I repeat) once you have the domain name, the service is free to platinum members. It may not be your mission critical solution--but it is far better than nothing! (Platinum members without personal domains, what are you waiting for?)
