Dear Colleagues,

I am confronted with 2 problems related to Kudoz and I believe I won't be the only one to be in this situation.
The first problem concerns e-mail notifications, and more precisely, those linked with e-mails that normally state that your answer was chosen by the answerer and you were awarded Kudoz points.
Practically, now, I know I was awarded Kudoz only if I control my profile, which indicates the number of Kudoz (stable or higher).

As a consequence, I am compelled to retrace the different questions to which I replied the days or weeks before in order to make the eventual entries in the glossary, and this for the benefit of everybody (I don't do it to see my number of BrowniZ increase).
Is anyone in the same situation?
I did write to the Staff of Proz to signal this malfunction weeks ago, but even if they replied to me trying to understand the origin of it, my Ticket was closed and the problem remained unsolved. Why this silence? Is the Staff of Proz incompetent to solve the problem? If so, why don't they appeal to specialists? A colleague of mine encounters the same problem.
What is rather surprising is I regularly receive e-mail notifications that announce to me that the "Question is closed", that is when I proposed an answer that was not selected by the answerer, as we all know. It's a stange thing.

The second problem is always related to Kudoz, but this time, it has something to do with "Not-for-points" questions that appear as such when you post your question, and then, when someone gives a first reply, it suddenly turns into a "normal question", with the obligation to award points to the person who offered the best answer. I refuse to give points for questions like these, when in fact I recently received an e-mail telling me to award points to these questions. Here again, I wrote to the staff of Proz to inform them of this technical problem, but I am waiting in vain.
Did you notice that a great number of entries in the glossary are not made? It should be due to the 1st problem I described before. What do you think about it?
I thank you in advance for your reactions.

Christine

I had exactly the same problem since about mid-november. It's very annoying indeed to learn that one of your answers has been chosen only from your total points on the hompage of the site! And still you don't know which one and furthermore, you are not able to make entries any more into the glossary if the asker doesn't.

I sent a support ticket about 6 weeks ago and until now the problem has not been solved, but I understand they go ahead in some way to find a solution.

By the way, you can reopen a support ticket whenever you want!

I am glad however to learn I am not the only one in this situation, and so I guess it's a more general problem than they tried to explain to me, i.e. not a problem between me and my provider or something like that. As I regularly receive all the other KudoZ notifications like you do, I don't quite understand - the sender is always the same!

I really hope they fix it soon!

I don't have your problem Jan 29, 2006

I received 4 [KudoZ] Congratulations (...) messages in the last week.

Maybe you have to change a setting somewhere (http://www.proz.com/?sp=dashboard&sp_mode=kudoz)?

Regards,
Gerard

Dear Gerard,

I have always received this type of Congratulations e-mails since the beginning and never changed anything. The Staff had checked everything and everything seemed normal.
The new technology does not seem reliable and I don't like mysteries.
Thanks for your comments.
Christine

Notifications seem to work fine here Jan 30, 2006

Christine, I'm afraid I cannot offer any real help; congratulatory e-mails seem to arrive OK here.

Since the e-mails triggered depend on the KudoZ design ("oldest", "version 3" or "new") used by the asker, there may be a glitch associated with a particular design -- unfortunately there's no way for you to verify what design an asker is using.

So all I can suggest to submit a new Support Request if you are positive that the problem is not on your side. For instance, you

So all I can suggest to submit a new Support Request if you are positive that the problem is not on your side. For instance, you may want to check and try switching off any spam filters that may be active either on your computer or on your provider's servers. Maybe a filter doesn't like the "Congratulations" part in the subject line? But that's just conjecture.

On the subject of not-for-points questions, I'm afraid I have no idea, let's see what ProZ staff comes up with.

The notification problem you have mentioned seems to be a problem with virgilio.it (and tin.it) Feb 7, 2006

Hello everyone,

Christine, Christel,

I was informed about this thread in a support ticket and wanted to answer your questions.

Staff here at ProZ.com has looked at every support ticket you all have submitted and made sure that the e-mail was sent out. Hello everyone,

Christine, Christel,

I was informed about this thread in a support ticket and wanted to answer your questions.

Staff here at ProZ.com has looked at every support ticket you all have submitted and made sure that the e-mail was sent out. In 99% of cases, the notification was sent by us, and delievered to your internet service provider. It seems like the mail is getting lost after it gets to your ISP. So I must stress the point that this is an issue with your e-mail provider, not with the ProZ.com system. All of our notifications are going out correclty and on time.

One thing I did notice is that most of the people saying they are not getting certain notifications (specifically, the KudoZ points have been awarded notifications) are using the tin.it network or the virgilio.it network for their e-mail (they seem to be sister companies). This network seems to be either blocking, or losing some of the mails we are sending.

We can provide specific e-mail message ids for the notifications that were sent to those who submit a support ticket. From there you would be able to call your e-mail provider, explain the problem you are having, and give them the message id's that we give you. We have had similar problems with certain e-mail / internet service providers in the past, and this is the best way to get the problem fixed (calling your e-mail / internet service provider).

And I assure you, we are competent

Best Regards,
Justin

Not-for-points turning into for-points questions Feb 7, 2006

Hi Christine,

"The second problem is always related to Kudoz, but this time, it has something to do with "Not-for-points" questions that appear as such when you post your question, and then, when someone gives a first reply, it suddenly turns into a "normal question", with the obligation to award points to the person who offered the best answer."

Thank you for pointing this out, I will look into this problem ASAP.

Best Regards,
Justin
